Carter Family Reunion

ca. 1898 Darke County, Ohio

Picture collection of Harry A Carter and Etta A Summers. Original – Denia Woodland

The woman holding the book (Bible?) in the picture is Mary Carter Oliver (1825-1908), next to her is her brother William Carter (1831-1918), next to him their brother John Carter (1833-1920). The woman seated next to Mary may be her youngest sister, Rachel Emeline Carter Johnson (1847-1900) and the young man and woman standing behind her may be her twins, Clarence and Clara Johnson. Mary, William, John, and Rachel were all great-grandchildren of Joseph Carter and Mary Gaskill. Their grandfather was Joshua Carter and their parents were William Carter and Rachel Brenneman. The rest of the people in the picture have not been identified; however, since this picture was sent to their brother Ephraim Milo Carter, who at the time was residing in either Mountain Grove, MO or Miami, Oklahoma, they are most likely the children and grandchildren of Ephraim’s siblings. If you can identify anyone else in the picture please let me know.
